SAGSPC  HISTORY

The Southern Arizona German Shorthaired Pointer Club was established in 1971 through the efforts of Dell Beesley, Don Markel, "Spud" Hester, and Glen Seal. Also, Helen Kramer, a nationally recognized AKC Conformation handler and judge, was very instrumental.

The SAGSPC has always focused primarily on field trials, however, throughout the 1970's and 1980's there was a strong conformation following too. Originally, the Club tried to hold four field events a year utilizing grounds at Casa Grande, Flagstaff, and Ft. Huachuca. Later, this schedule was reduced to a January trial on the post at Ft. Huachuca and a September trial in the White Mountains. In addition, the Club started holding a Hunt Test which was a new field event promoted by the AKC. Conformation events were centered on a spring "specialty show" and later an obedience trial was added. Currently the Club membership has grown to approximately 60 and sponsors several events. Those include a January field trial, February "walking" field trial, hunt test (usually in March), along with our Specialty Shows in November and March.
